A video shows a couple drinking outdoors in a downtown cafe in Paris, France. A burning trash can can be seen not far behind, creating a strong contrast. The scene was taken near the Arc de Triomphe, a famous landmark in Paris and one of the areas most affected by recent riots. This wave of protests began last month. They were initially initiated by schoolgirls, demanding improvements in education issues such as old school buildings, crowded classrooms and insufficient escortchers. Later, they gradually expanded to cover cost of living, employment and other social issues. Last Saturday (October 17), more than 500,000 people took to the streets to demonstrate across France. Protests in some areas turned violent, with buildings set on fire and shops looted.
