Organizers said that about 170,000 people took to the streets, with the theme of the parade being "Let's listen together when we speak out, and act together when we walk together." This year's parade was particularly political because Taipei gay bar Commander D was raided by police at the beginning of the month and many customers were taken away, triggering a backlash in the community. Taipei Mayor Chiang Wanan, who is running for re-election, briefly appeared at the parade that day, but was booed and protested by some people. Some participants questioned whether the city government truly protected the rights of diverse ethnic groups after the gay bar raids. Jiang Wanan responded again the next day, demanding strict investigation and punishment for the inappropriate words and deeds of his police colleagues, and once again apologized to those affected. Shen Boyang, Taipei mayoral candidate of the Democratic Progressive Party, also went to the parade that afternoon and said that clear law enforcement standards should be established to avoid infringing on gay rights and interests, and to actively create a friendly environment.
